Edward 'Ted' Bradley died in January 2009 at the age of 81 years - he served in Wolverhampton Police in 1955 before serving
in Cyprus.  He returned to the West Midlands in 1959 and served until 1976  having attained the rank of
Detective Superintendent and afterwards was seconded  to New Hebrides in the Pacific for three years!  Following his
retirement in 1981 he went to Papua New Guinea where he was deputy director of crime with a rank of Detective Chief
Superintendent.  Here are a few items of interest concerning Ted!!

INTERESTING PRESS RELEASE!!!!  - Thanks to Mick Hewitt for supplying it.

HARRY LANGSTON

I hope some of the photos and articles will be suitable for a mention in N.A.R.P.O Wolverhampton Branch, I'm sure they would bring
back many memories for some of your members especially I know for Joe Davies.
I'm sorry for the clarity of some of the photos but they are very old and some I have made copies of, I don't have a
photo of my uncle in uniform when he transferred to Wolverhampton Borough Police from the Met.
Joe Davies asked me what my uncles number was but I don't know, only his Met. number S404, it would be nice to
know his number in the W.B.P. I wonder if it is known by someone, if my father was alive he would have known
and it was my father who attracted his brother to join the police because he liked his uniform, my father was in the
Staffordshire and Wolverhampton Special Constabulary.
I just thought I would like to mention that my uncle finished work at Montreal Airport, he was an Immigration Official.
The three attachment files are part of my fathers police badge collection again I thought you might like to see them.
Derek Langston.

Wolverhampton Police

During the 19th century, local council watch committees were authorised to set up police forces and, in 1849, the Wolverhampton Borough Police Force was established. The headquarters were based at Garrick Street and included a number of cells.

The records of the Wolverhampton Police are held at Wolverhampton Archives. The most useful records are the registers of convictions c. 1850 - 1918 that list prisoners, their conviction, and usually a physical description.

Convicted criminals could be sent to a House of Correction or county gaol. A House of Correction was opened in Wolverhampton in 1745 but was closed in 1821.
